Emmanuel+Keila

Emmanuel & Keila are a very fun couple to work with. Both are talented musicians, which creates a wonderful mix in the two of them. They came to us, wanting a modern, edgy, Seattle style engagement session, so what better location than Fremont? Fremont has fun backgrounds, a great culture and we even received permission to photograph in front of a taco stand, which allowed for fun, personality filled photographs! So if you're ever in Fremont, look for taco stands and other great locations to photograph!

Remembering where we've been

These photos are from a shoot Thien and I did some time ago, back when Captus was still an idea in our heads. Looking at them, it’s evident, that we’ve come a long way. Still, we wanted to share them with you all and remember where we once were, where we are now, and where we plan to go.

Ashley Bales did a great job modeling for with us as we experimented with lighting and concepts. We wouldn’t be where we are today without people like her to put up while we learned to master lighting. So thank you Ashley Bales!

Intentional Photography

Photography theory is where exceptional photography begins.Understanding light and how a camera captures light is the basis to becoming a well-balanced photographer. A photographer works to photograph under any given circumstance. Regardless of weather or ideal lighting, photography theory will enable a photographer to capture the image.

It is important to count the camera as a part of the body, by controlling it,harnessing its power, and working with its limitations. The common misconception is that expensive camera gear will result in better photography. But without photography theory, even the most luxurious of cameras will not solve difficult circumstances.

With modern technology, automatic settings in cameras are daily improving. Cameras, like many man made tools, do not possess the ability to capture or represent human intuition, thought or emotions. These human elements are the basic makeup of what differentiates each photographer in a unique and personal way.

When a photographer embraces photography theory, a sense of true freedom may be experienced in capturing his or her surroundings.

Musical Artist: Katie Rice

Katie and her husband Jesse are an incredible couple to work with.
They are both inspiring and creative which made our session flow so
well. We had such a great time that we ended up shooting several hours
longer than we had planned with plenty of ideas still being dreamt up.
Katie is currently working on a new album with themes of love,
relationships, and life on a journey. Check out her site:

Cat-Dan+Tim's Maternity

I have always found something natural and beautiful about maternity. They say that women in maternity have a "glow" about them. I always believed that it would be an incredible experience learning to photograph that "glow". Traditionally maternity photographs that I have seen, tend to make me feel awkward in both the style that it is portrayed in and the content. I imagined from the child of my client's perspective, "Would I want to see my parents in nude photographs wearing tinfoil in unsavory positions?" I decided to try something different, I wanted photographs I would imagine my parents could actually place on their walls, like a piece of art, that were about my parents love for each other and for me. I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed photographing them. These are of my sister, my brother-in-law, and my nephew whom I am eager to meet.
